General description
Protein phosphatase inhibitor-2 is a specific inhibitor of protein phosphatase 1 (PP1). It constitutes the regulatory subunit of the cytosolic form of PP1 known also as ATP-Mg dependent phosphatase or protein phosphatase 1l (PP1l). Activation of PP1l can be achieved by phosphorylation of I-2 on the Thr-72 by glycogen synthase kinase-3 (GSK-3). This activation is increased by casein kinase phosphorylation in a synergistic mechanism.
