Application
Prestained markers are supplied as a ready-to-load mixture for SDS-PAGE and Western blotting that are visible without any subsequent staining. Prestained markers transferred onto nitrocellulose, nylon or PVDF provide a means to determine the molecular weight of an immunostained protein on a Western blot and provide a visual check of transfer efficiency of protein to the membrane. Prestained markers also provide a visual monitor of protein migration during electrophoresis.
Caution
The molecular weights of the proteins are altered by the covalent attachment of dye. The apparent molecular weights of the conjugated proteins are determined and listed on the label. When precise molecular weight determinations are necessary, SigmaMarkers should be used.
