The unit is a gravity operated sample preparation column that cannot be connected to any system. It generally can be used to process samples up to 2.5 mL.

The PD-10 desalting columns contain Sephadex® G-25 for gel filtration (size exclusion) of biomolecules. Globular compounds, such as proteins that are >5,000 Da, pass quickly through the column. Compounds <1,000 Da, such as salts, pass through the column slowly. The column actually separates two classes of compounds by their molecular weight, thus desalting the protein of interest.
