MRI/MRS

Compounds labelled with stable isotopes, such as D-Glucose-1-¹³C are used in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) techniques to render visible metabolic changes in the brain. The goal of this research is the early diagnosis of neuro-psychiatric disorders. Isotopic labelling provides better resolution and sensitivity than natural abundance in many imaging experiments, and the use of stable isotopes in MRI/MRS techniques is increasing.
