Phycobili Proteins - Enhanced Sensitivity
Sigma offers activated, biotinylated or streptavidin linked phycoerythrin, phycocyanin, and CryptoFluor™ dyes. These dyes are the first choice for applications that require either high sensitivity or simultaneous multicolor detection, e.g. flow cytometry and immunoassay. Phycobili proteins exhibit both quantum yields near 100% and extremely high extinction coefficients. The fluorescence yield of a single molecule is equivalent to at least 30 fluorescein or 100 rhodamine molecules at comparable wavelengths. CryptoFluor dyes are phycobiliproteins isolated from cryptomonad algae that provide additional spectral characteristics to complement the more common phycobiliproteins (e.g., R-PE and APC) as well as providing much smaller molecular weights.
