QuadraPure™ and QuadraSil™ metal scavengers offer a variety of complementary solutions for efficient removal and economic recovery of precious metal contamination from products and organic or aqueous process streams. The above picture shows a typical ‘before-and-after’ treatment of a metal catalyst solution (initial metal content 1000 ppm) at room temperature, by simple agitation with a metal scavenger.
Polymer and Silica-based Metal Scavengers
QuadraPure™
The QuadraPure™ collection consists of two ranges of functionalized polystyrene beads:
- Macroporous, low-swell, robust beads for use in either in batch or flow processes.
- Microporous, solvent swellable beads with high capacity intended largely for R&D application.
The above graphic illustrates the effect of treating a metal contaminated reaction mixture with different QuadraPure™ metal scavengers. The original reaction mixture (obtained from a hydrogenation reaction using Wilkinson’s catalyst) contained ~200 ppm Rh metal. Treatment with either of the three QuadraPures™ reduced Rh contamination by >99%.

QuadraSilTM
The QuadraSils™ scavengers offer extremely rapid removal of metal catalyst residues. The QuadraSils™ are based on high-quality spherical silica beads with well defined porosity which can be used in aqueous or organic solution and in batch or flow processes.
The image below illustrates the effect of treating a reaction mixture containing Grubbs’ catalyst in toluene (~ 595 ppm Ru). Addition of QuadraSils™ resulted in removal of >99% of the Ru metal, with QuadraSil™ AP reaching this low level in 1.5 hours.

Carbon-based Scavengers for Trace Organics
QuadraPure™ C: Coming Soon!
QuadraPureTM C is a totally synthetic carbon adsorbent for removal of soluble organics from polar solvents, including water. It is composed of 0.3 to 0.8 mm mechanically-stable beads which are free-flowing and dust free. The adsorbent has a high surface area and capacity, is thermally stable, and is effective at removing a number of commonly-occurring organic contaminants including those responsible for color and odor. Potential applications include cGMP manufacture of APIs and intermediates and clean-up of macromolecules such as peptides.
