Basic Phosphine Ligands

Organic phosphines play a variety of roles in synthesis, including those of basic ligands and reagents. For example, triphenylphosphine reacts with DMAD and phenols to generate 4-carboxymethylcoumarins in fairly high yields. Meanwhile, the complex formed from Ni(cod)2 and tricyclopentylphosphine ligand has been used to catalyze the fully intermolecular and diastereoselective [2 + 2 + 2] cycloaddition of two enones with an alkyne to form the corresponding diketone-functionalized, highly substituted cyclohexenes in high-to-excellent yields.
