Functionalized Silica Gels
Sigma-Aldrich and Silicycle Inc. have partnered to offer a wide range of functionalized silica gels for scavenging and organic synthesis. Silicycle Inc. manufactures the novel products to combine with the wide resins that Sigma-Aldrich now offers to help your synthetic needs.
These novel silica gel products offer numerous advantages over the well-known gel-type resins.
Advantages of Functionalized Silica
- Solvent Independent: Silica neither shrinks nor swells in any solvent. Also, since it is end-capped, it will not dissolve in the solvent. Your scavenger will not dictate which solvent you will use with your reaction.
- Easy to use: Easy to weigh and handle since the silica does not carry a static charge and is always free flowing.
- Mechanically Stable: Works well with overhead stirring and can be used with a bottom coupled spin bar for up to four hours.
- Thermally Stable: Silica can withstand temperatures over 200°C and is suitable for use in microwave synthesizers.
- Scalable: Works on microgram to the multi ton scale.
