Analytical Method: Analytical Quality Assurance, Standard for Bromate

Reagents:
Cat.No. 104912  Potassium bromate for analysis ACS, ISO, Reag, Ph Eur 99.8 % or
Cat.No. 109925  Potassium bromate solution for 1000 ml; c(KBrO3) = 1/60 mol/l (0.1 N) Titrisol®
Cat.No. 116754  Water for analysis
 
Hint:
The 99.8 % concentration of the above used potassium bromate is good enough to prepare a standard. Errors from weighting, dilution and handling are higher as the error that comes from the salt itself.
 
Preparation of a bromate standard solution from potassium bromate (salt):
Dissolve 1.306 g of KBrO3 with water for analysis in a calibrated or conformity-checked 1000-ml volumetric flask and make up to the mark with water for analysis. The standard solution prepared according to this procedure has a concentration of 1000 mg/l BrO3-.

Hint:
The potassium bromate solution, Cat.No. 109925 contains 2.78 g KBrO3.
Place the content of the ampoule into a calibrated or conformity-checked 1000-ml volumetric flask and make up to the mark with water for analysis. The concentration of this dilution solution is 2.78 g/l KBrO3 or 2.13 g/l BrO3-

Preparation of a bromate standard solution from the potassium bromate dilution solution:
For the preparation of a 1000 mg/l BrO3- standard solution, place 470 ml of the dilution solution into a calibrated or conformity-checked 1000-ml volumetric flask and make up to the mark with water for analysis.

Preparation of further investigational solutions: 
Further investigational concentrations may be prepared from these standard solutions by diluting accordingly.
 
Stability:
The standard solutions of 1000 mg/l BrO3-, the dilution solution and the investigational solutions remain stable at room temperature for at least one month.
