Sample preparation:
In a test tube mix about 100 mg (exactly determined) of finely powdered sampling material with 5 g of potassium hydrogen sulfate. Heat over a flame, until a clear orange-yellow melt is formed (fume cupboard!). After cooling, dissolve the melt completely in water and transfer to a glass beaker. Using a pH - meter, adjust this solution to a pH 7 - 7.5 by dropwise addition of sodium hydroxide solution 10 %. Transfer the solution to a 100-ml volumetric flask, fill up to the mark with water, and mix thoroughly. Before determination, remove all undissolved matter by filtration through a folded filter.
 
Analysis:
Determine with the above mentioned test kit.
 
Calculation:

Calcium content in % = analysis value in mg/l Ca x 10
weight of sample in mg
