Reagent 1:
Dissolve 5 g iodine monochloride, 1 g tetraethylammonium chloride in 94 g of 100 % acetic acid for analysis.
 
Reagent 2:
Dissolve 3 g ammonium nitrate and 7 ml 25 % ammonia solution in water for analysis in a 1-l volumetric flask and make up to the mark with water for analysis.
 
Sample preparation:
Place 5.0 ml of fuel sample in a 100-ml separating funnel, add 0.50 ml reagent 1 and mix. Close off the funnel and allow to stand for 10 minutes, shaking occasionally. Extract three times with 10 ml of reagent 2, each time transferring the lower phase to a 250-ml volumetric flask. Add 120 mg of sodium sulfite, mix and fill to the mark with water for analysis. Mix the solution well. Prior to analysis, pass about 5 ml of the sample through a membrane filter.
 
Analysis:
Determine with the above mentioned test kits.
 
Calculation:
Lead content in mg/l Pb = analysis value in mg/l Pb x 50
