KICKBALL FOR A CAUSE

St. Louis, MO
Saturday, August 29th

ABOUT THE EVENT

Kickball for a Cause is a fun day of coed team competition. Even if you have not kicked a ball since your grade-school days, you will still have fun competing in this tournament. Kickoff is at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 29th, at Shaw Park. Thirty-two teams will kick until the championship team is determined. Registration is $35 per player. Teams consist of a minimum of nine players, with no maximum number of players. Each team must have at least three ladies.

Registration includes an awesome event t-shirt (in addition to the Team Sigma-Aldrich t-shirt that you will get for being part of any 2009 Team Sigma-Aldrich event), at least three guaranteed games of kickball, two drink tickets good for beer, soda or bottled water, and a goody bag.

Proceeds from Kickball for a Cause benefit The SPOT (Supporting Positive Opportunities with Teens), supported by St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The SPOT youth center is an innovative, one-stop, drop-in center that provides the support, opportunities and services for youth to address their health, social support and prevention needs, free of charge and with as few administrative barriers as possible.

Youth can receive a range of confidential services at the center, including medical and reproductive health care, case management, mental health, education and vocational assistance, and other social and prevention services. Youth have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of program development and implementation to exercise youth leadership.

Physicians of the Washington University School of Medicine Division-SLCH Adolescent Center, Pediatric Infectious Diseases, and Obstetrics and Gynecology provide medical services. The Youth Center furthers the center’s goal of interagency coordination, offering youth one-stop availability of services, and avoiding duplication of services and effort.

While similar programs are operating successfully in other cities, no such resource currently exists in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
