Sigma-Aldrich is proud to once again be a Pewter sponsor of this year's Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure, scheduled to be held on Saturday, June 13th, in downtown St. Louis.
Look for our company name featured on more than 60,000 official race t-shirts again this year! Better yet, donate a few bucks and a bit of your time, and get that t-shirt and a special new "2009 Edition" Team Sigma-Aldrich t-shirt to add to your collection!
The Komen Foundation is dedicated to eradicating breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment. The Foundation sponsors Komen Race for the Cure®, the largest series of local 5-kilometer runs and walks for any cause anywhere in the world. Up to 75 percent of the net proceeds raised from the St. Louis race stay right here in St. Louis to fund breast health education, treatment and screening for medically under-served neighbors and friends. As the world leader in tools for Life Science research, Sigma-Aldrich is pleased to actively support a cause so closely related to our core business.
In 2008, the St. Louis event raised more than $3.3 million with over 64,000 registered participants. In 2009, Komen hopes to have 70,000 participants and raise $3.5 million. So let's work together to help meet this goal!
Over the past seven years, a growing number of Sigma-Aldrich employees and their families have joined together to participate in this event. In 2002, we had 45 team members, and in 2008, we had 340! Why not help us raise that total to 400 or more in 2009?
As in past years, every employee, every member of their family and all of their friends are invited to join in. Those who can't run can walk. And those who can't run or walk, have kids or other conflicts, or who just prefer to participate from the comfort of their own backyard lawn chairs, can still show their support by participating as a "virtual runner."
Unless you've got a whole closet full of t-shirts, you can't lose! Not one, but two t-shirts—the first of which lets others around you know that you want to help find an end to breast cancer, and the second of which lets them know that you and your company give back to our community. We hope you'll join in!
