SPECIAL OLYMPICS
Bellefonte, PA
Thursday, June 4th – Sunday, June 7th
ABOUT THE EVENT
Special Olympics has a place for everyone: athletes, families, coaches, volunteers and donors. If you want to join a movement that will change the way you look at the world, join this world of winners. Once you spend a day with the athletes of Special Olympics, you will come back time and again.
At more than 300 local, sectional and statewide events, Special Olympics Pennsylvania (SOPA) provides competitions free of charge to more than 26,000 athletes. Volunteer games management committees and in-kind donations fuel the success of these events, which range from an all-day aquatics meet to four-day, multisport events.
The Special Olympics Pennsylvania Summer Games are held each year at Penn State University in State College. The event brings together over 2,100 athletes, 800 coaches, and over 4,000 volunteers from across the state. Our largest event of the year, Summer Games features three days of intense competition in aquatics, basketball, bowling, equestrian, golf, gymnastics, softball and tennis.
This event requires volunteers from around the state to serve as officials, athlete escorts, award presenters, and in other various roles. Spectators are welcome to visit any of the competition venues to support the athletes.
The 2009 Summer Games are scheduled for June 4th - 7th.
