Büchi Model B580 GKR oven for distillation

The small size flasks in this ball-tube oven make it an ideal system for high temperature distillation of small quantities of liquid, for separating solvents from non-volatile, oily components in a mixture or for evaporating quantities of sample that are too small for rotary evaporators. Includes 3 x 20mL ball-tube assembly, ball-tube drive unit and 60mL rotation drying flask.

- Variable rotation speed, 0 to 50rpm
- Cooling device cold trap can be cooled down to -80°C
- Several different inserts, ball-tubes with 2, 3 or 4 balls are available

Azeotropic distillation apparatus
All connections are made using greaseless, S.T. 14/20 screw-thread joints. All parts are interchangeable with those contained in the Aldrich All-In-One Glassware kit, Z166898. Complete apparatus includes distillation head and 100mL round-bottom flask.

Azeotropic Technique:
- The solvent/H2O azeotrope is cooled completely by a water-cooled condenser and directed to the extraction reservoir (filled with 4Å molecular sieves through a S.T. 14/20 joint). The reservoir joint* can also be used as a septum inlet for the removal of water via syringe
- The solvent and any volatile reagents are recycled through the sieves at ambient temperature
- Additional reagent can be added to the reservoir (via dropping funnel connected at the reservoir joint) as a means of slow addition to a mixture at reflux
