Cholinesterase Enzymes

The two most common sources of cholinesterase activity are:

Acetylcholinesterase (E.C. 3.1.1.7), found in post-synaptic neuromuscular junctions and erythrocyte membranes. The tetrameric G4 form is predominant in the mammalian brain.

Butyrylcholinesterase (E.C.3.1.1.8), often referred to as pseudocholinesterase or nonspecific cholinesterase, is a circulating plasma enzyme produced in the liver.
