Coagulation, the process of liquid blood forming solid clots, involves a cascade of reactions between coagulation factor proteins and platelet cofactors. Anticoagulants interfere with this complex process, either within the thrombin system or with the platelet activation. This activity makes anticoagulants useful in treating stroke, transient ischaemic attacks, deep vein thrombosis, myocradial infarction, and pulmonary embolisms. Sigma offers therapeutics such as Acenocoumarol (Cat. No. SML0074), an anticoagulant that inhibits Vitamin K epoxide reductase, as well as Argatroban (Cat. No. A0487) and Clopidogrel (Cat. No. SML0004) which directly inhibit thrombin for research purposes. Other anticoagulants available at Sigma include but are not limited to Nafamostat (Cat. No. N0289), Polyanetholsulfonic acid (Cat. No. P2008), and Prasugrel (Cat. No. SML0331).
