IL-18 Production and Role in Immune Response

IL-18 mRNA has been detected in keratinocytes, small intestine epithelial cells, adrenal cells, macrophages, pancrease, skeletal muscle, liver, lung and PBMC (peripheral blood mononuclear cells). IL-18 receptors have been identified only on T, B and NK cells. The primary immune actions of IL-18 appear to be through the induction of high levels of IFN-g production.
