Overview

RNAi has emerged as an important mainstream tool for both basic and applied research, and it has revolutionized the novel discipline known as functional genomics. This workshop will provide hands-on technical training for both siRNA and lentiviral shRNA, experimental design, troubleshooting, and measuring knockdown effects. Featured lectures will provide in depth discussion on the fundamentals of RNAi as well as cutting edge applications for drug discovery and target validation. After mastering lentiviral technology, registrants will have all of the tools they will need to silence proteins-not only in standard tumor cell lines, but also in primary cells and in non-dividing primary cells. Registrants should be familiar with basic mammalian cell culture techniques.

Feedback from Attendees

"Absolutely awesome. Everyone at Sigma is very receptive and ready to assist with all needs. I would highly recommend this workshop to anyone in the field. I am very glad that I had this opportunity." — Laia Gómez Baldó, Institute Català d'Oncologia, Spain

"The Sigma-Aldrich RNAi workshop included a nice balance of theoretical and practical information. In particular, the hands-on components of the workshop showed me how easily I could incorporate siRNA and shRNA approaches into my research projects. The Sigma-Aldrich RNAi team was knowledgeable, helpful, and above all, friendly and accessible." — Jon Fisher, St. Louis University Biology Department, Missouri, USA

"I just wanted to thank you for the hospitality you have shown us during our stay in St. Louis. It was a very pleasant experience and it felt very good to know that there are people that not only care about the science but also about fellow human beings. The workshop was very nicely arranged, if there were any hiccups, I did not see any. The crew was also very helpful and friendly, that counts a lot for me..." — Phiyani Lebea, at CSIR Biosciences, South Africa

Accommodations

The city of St. Louis offers a variety of convienent transportation and accommodation options. Lambert St. Louis International Airport (STL) is connected to downtown St. Louis by a major interstate (I-70) as well as a convienent Metrolink system that directly connects the airport terminal to multiple downtown stops and locations. Once in St. Louis, we strongly recommend staying at the right to Hilton at the Ballpark. Sigma has negotiated a special low rate for all of the RNAi workshop participants. In addition, a free shuttle will take all participants from the Hilton each morning to the Sigma Life Science and High Technology Center and then return them at the end of each day. This allows participants to focus on the RNAi course and not worry about scheduling transportation.
