Plant Nucleic Acid Purification Enzymes

Enzymes are independent-acting, complex proteins that function as organic catalysts. As catalysts, enzymes speed up chemical processes, and are very specific as to their actions. For the purpose of plant nucleic acid purification, Sigma provides two enzymes: Proteinase K and Ribonuclease A. Proteinase K, supplied in lyophilized powder form, is a stable, highly reactive, serine protease used in molecular biology applications to digest (inactivate) unwanted proteins, such as the nucleases from DNA or RNA preparations from microorganisms, cultured cells, and plants. Ribonuclease A (also called RNase A), is supplied in either a lyophilized powder or as a buffered aqueous glycerol solution. A major application for Ribonuclease A is the removal of RNA from preparations of plasmid DNA.
