Plant Nucleic Acid Purification

Scientists use a variety of purification processes on plant tissue to isolate nucleic acid (DNA and RNA) for research applications such as amplification, cloning, ligation, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), restriction endonuclease digests, sequencing, Southern blots, and transfection. Usable plant tissue includes fresh, frozen, and dried samples of flowers, leaves, stems, seeds, callus, roots, embryos, and other portions. Sigma-Aldrich provides kits and other products for three types of rapid purification: Genomic DNA Purification, Plasmid DNA Purification, and RNA Purification. Sigma also provides specific enzymes and reagents that can be ordered separately.
