Mechanism of Action

Pharmacology:

  • Constituents: Some volatile emissions of Eastern hemlock, Tsuga canadensis Carriere, have been identified as α-pinene, myrcene, tricyclene, camphene, α-phellandrene, β-pinene, limonene, β-phellandrene, terpinolene, and bornyl acetate; α-pinene, myrcene, and camphene comprised greater than 75% by mass of the total volatile release.1 Flavan-3-ols and flavanols, including catechin, epicatechin and proanthocyanidins, have been found in Eastern hemlock cells.2 According to secondary sources, Eastern hemlock bark also contains 10-13% tannin.
