Sigma-Aldrich seminar

 Sample Preparation and HPLC

Have you ever been stuck in the development of analytical sample preparation methods?
This seminar arranged by Sigma-Aldrich/Supelco can give you ideas how to proceed and will be useful for beginners, experts or anyone interested in Analytical Chemistry.
The speakers will provide you with an overview of basics, method development and trouble-shooting in sample preparation for organic analytes. Topics covered will also include the latest techniques and novelties to achieve accurate and precise results. In addition there will be a session covering fast HPLC and how to achieve speed and higher efficiency without ultra high pressure. During the seminar application examples will be shown from the pharmaceutical, bioanalytical, food & beverage, and environmental areas.

AGENDA:

8.30-8.45

Registration Coffee

8.45-9.15

SPE Basics
Solid Phase Extraction is nowadays a well established sample preparation technique in most analytical labs. It is often a good alternative to liquid-liquid extraction providing a better selectivity and less solvent demand. The presentation will provide an overview of configurations, extraction strategies and retention mechanisms.

9.15-9.45

Profile Optimised SPE-POS
A systematic method development approach. The robustness of a sample preparation method plays a vital role on the analytical process on the whole. Therefore the method development needs to be geared towards highest efficiency and reliability. Very often in SPE cleanup potential is wasted by not determining and evaluating the key variables influencing retention and recovery. In this presentation the focus is on method development process providing a robust and reliable SPE method throughout the whole assay.

9.45-10.15

10.15-10.45

Special SPE Phases
For certain applications standard SPE phases/configurations like reversed-/normal phase, ionexchange  SPE-Tubes are not optimal to achieve the best clean up or concentration result. This presentation will introduce special/dedicated SPE phases like the Ag-Ion SPE for fractionation of cis & trans FAMEs prior to GC, the mixed mode phase for basic an zwitterionic drug components as well as explaining the use of the dispersive SPE for the QuEChERS Method and the multi layer silica tubes /dual carbon cartridge for the cleanup of dioxin samples.

10.45-11.30

SupelMIP - Molecularly Imprinted Polymers for the Highly Selective Extraction of Trace Analytes from Complex Matrices
Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are a class of highly cross-linked polymer-based molecular recognition elements engineered to bind one target compound or a class of structurally related target compounds with high selectivity. This high selectivity and the the predeveloped methods allow analysts to achiever cleaner extracts allowing for lower detection limits and more reproducible results. The presentation will focus on the basics and principles of this materials as well showing dedicated application examples.

11.30-12.00

HybridSPE-Precipitation
The HybridSPE combines simplicity and speed of protein precipitation with selectivity of SPE to efficiently remove proteins and phospholipids without or with only minimal method development, leading to more sensitive and reliable LC-MS results. This presentation explains the basics and mechanism of the HybridSPE as well as showing application examples.

12.00-13.00

Lunch

13.00-13.15

Fast HPLC
Overview on how an HPLC method can be done faster

13.15-13.45

Ascentis Express, Fused Core Particle Columns
Innovative HPLC Particle Technology providing higher efficiencies and shorter run times providing UHPLC performance on common HPLC Systems

13.45-14.05

Coffee

14.05-14.40

SPME Basics, Theory and trouble shooting
Solid Phase Micro Extraction (SPME) introduced by Janusz Pawliszyn in the early 90ties is nowadays an established sample preparation method and used in many areas like environmental, food & Beverage, forensic and other application areas. This presentation will focus on the theory and principles of this technique helping the users to successfully implement and apply this technology in their lab.

14.40-15.00

SPME Recent developments
This presentation will focus on the newest developments in SPME and available products for SPME like the metal fibers the new PEG phase and recently added applications and methods.

15.00-15.30
