Suitability application for UHPLC
Analysis Note Benzoyl peroxide is split into benzoic acid and oxygen when it comes in contact with the skin breaking down the keratin in the outermost layer. This helps to lower bacterial populations in the pores on the skin. It also has a mild drying effect, which allows excess oils and dirt to be easily washed away from the skin. This application demonstrates reverse phase interactions with an improvement on the current monograph.
Sample prep 1 gram of Clean & Clear® continuous control acne cleanser (10% benzoyl peroxide) was added to a 25 mL volumetric flask and 10 mL of acetonitrile was added by pipet. The gel and acetonitrile was vortexed for 30 seconds and sonicated for one hour. 1mL of the acetonitrile was then filted with a 0.45 μm Millex®-LH filter. The filtered acetonitrile (10 μL) was added to 9.99 mL of 30:70 acetonitrile:5 mM potassium phosphate (pH 3.0) in water with phosphoric acid to give a concentration of 100 mg/mL.
