Sample preparation:

Place about 150 ml water for analysis in a 250-ml volumetric flask and add about 1 g (exactly weighed) of the sample. Fill up to volume with water for analysis and stir for 1 hour with a magnetic stirrer.
Mix 20 ml of the produced suspension with 2.5 ml each Carrez-1 and -2 solution, centrifuge with 4000 turns per minute for 10 minutes.
Use the clear supernatant liquid to determine nitrate.
 
Analysis:
Determine with the above mentioned test kits.
 
Calculation:

Nitrate content in g/kg NO3 = analysis value in mg/l NO3 x 0.31
weight of sample in g
