Hints:
Mineral waters with a high hydrogencarbonate content (buffered systems) must be acidified before the determination of the nitrites. For this reason the optimal pH-value must be closely observed.
 
Sample preparation:
Adjust 10 ml sample to pH 2, by dropwise addition of hydrochloric acid 1 mol/l, using pH-indicator strips
pH 0 - 2.5. Use this solution to determine Nitrite directly.
 
Analysis:
Determine with the above mentioned test kits.
 
Calculation:
Nitrite content in mg/l NO2 = analysis value in mg/l NO2
