Analytical Method: Titanium in wastewater

Reagents:

2.3-Dihydroxynaphthaline, Aldrich Cat.-No. D11, 600-9
Membrane filter 0.45 μm pore diameter
 
Reagent 1:
Dissolve 2.5 g 2.3-dihydroxynaphthaline in 50 ml of dimethylformamide.
 
Reagent 2:
Sodium acetate solution, saturated at 25 °C.
 
Reagent 3:
Mix 40 g thioglycolic acid and 60 ml of water for analysis.
 
Measurement range:
0.25 - 7.00 mg/l Ti at cell length 10 mm and 405 nm
 
Sample preparation:
The sample solution must be clear; if not, filter through a fluted filter or membrane filter with 0.45 μm pore diameter.
 
Analysis:
Mix 5.0 ml of sample solution, 0.25 ml reagent 1, 1.0 ml reagent 2 and 0.25 ml reagent 3 in a test tube. Allow to stand for 5 minutes and then measure against water at 405 nm.
