Buffer Solutions for Volumetric Karl Fischer Titration

In addition to complete dissolution of the sample, an optimum pH of 5-8 is of decisive importance for accurate water determination according to Karl Fischer. In most cases, the buffering of the reaction medium by the Karl Fischer reagent used will be sufficient. With some samples, however, such as strong bases or acids, the pH is shifted into the acid or alkaline range. In such cases, an additional buffer solution must be added to maintain the pH in the optimum range for the Karl Fischer reaction. We provide two ready-to-use buffer solutions for use in Karl Fischer titrations: our Aquastar® buffer solution for strong acids and an Aquastar® buffer solution for strong bases.
