Cationic Palladium Complex, [Pd(dppp) (PhCN)2](BF4)2 in Hetero Diels-Alder Reaction

By: Josephine Nakhla, Chemfiles volume 10 Article 3

Cationic palladium(II) complexes are utilized in a variety of reactions. [Pd(dppp)(PhCN)2](BF4)2 (696617) was shown to catalyze the hetero Diels-Alder reaction of dienes with aldehydes. The reaction yields substituted 5,6-dihydro-2H-pyrans without the use of Lewis acids (Scheme 1). The reaction is believed to proceed through a stepwise mechanism.
