Question:

Answer:

The Toolbar for IE and Deskbar for Windows both require administrator rights to install.  This is because Windows requires a DLL file to be registered with the system and only administrators have that privilege.

Question:

Do I need to uninstall my current Toolbar before downloading the latest version?

Answer:

If you'd like to manually update your Toolbar, it's not necessary to uninstall the Sigma-Aldrich Toolbar currently running on your system before downloading the latest version. Please note, however, that the Sigma-Aldrich Toolbar automatically updates you to the latest and most stable version of the Toolbar so that you don't have to worry about your Toolbar being up-to-date.

If you would like to manually install the latest version, simply visit Sigma-Aldrich Search Tools to begin the installation process. Once the download is complete, you may need to close all browser windows and open a new window before the new version will appear.

Question:

How do I get the latest version of the Toolbar?

Answer:

The Sigma-Aldrich Toolbar updates automatically when a new version is available. This may not happen immediately, but it will happen soon after each release. If you learn that there's a new version available, and you haven't been updated yet, you can reinstall the latest version at Sigma-Aldrich Search Tools.

It isn't necessary to uninstall the Toolbar you're currently using before downloading the latest version. Once the installation is complete, you may have to close all browser windows and open a new window to make the new version appear.

Question:

Why do I get an error about writing a file when I reinstall the Toolbar for IE?

Answer:

When the Toolbar for IE is installed it has a DLL file registered and used by Windows.  When you reinstall the installer tries to copy the DLL again, but the current DLL is in use and Windows won't allow the file to be replaced.
