Innovation Programs

What is it:
It is an in-person ideation event, using Design Thinking tools to develop a project from a proposed technological challenge, stimulating the discussion of Innovation based on business strategy in the academia-industry transition.

Objective: 
To attract private capital for the academic segment and accelerate the adoption of technological trends in the areas of Nanotechnology, Simplified Diagnostics, Precision Medicine, and Sustainable Solutions, through the application of private resource acquisition projects, particularly the Merck Research Grant and calls for public-private partnerships.

Schedule:

Day 1: Innovation Tools

  • Merck Innovation Ecosystem
  • How to increase your creativity;
  • Innovation tools and concepts;
  • Design Thinking, Design Sprint, and Lean Startup

Day 2: Tools for Technological Maturity Analysis: TRL.

  • Validation Tools
  • Preparation of projects for the Merck Research Grant Program
  • Elements of a business model, Canvas Template, and Case Studies
  • Collaboration methods and sources of financing

Day 3: Presentation Session (Pitch Session)

  • Basics of a Pitch
  • Case study
  • Presentation and Validation

Deliverable:
Project presentation to the Merck Research Grant and/or collaboration calls.

What is it:
It is an in-person event developed to advance and refine projects created during the "Academic Entrepreneurship Day" to ensure their market-product fit, through discussions of technological and commercial trends to highlight the importance of understanding market behavior and target customers to create and advance new solutions.

Objective:
Ensure project advancement on the TRL scale.

Schedule:

Day 1: Introduction to market-product fit tools.

  • Tools for future design.
  • Market attraction technology and patent priority analysis.
  • Value proposition tools: SWOT analysis.
  • Customer behavior: Account Base MKT/Demand Base Tool.

Day 2: Tools for technological/commercial maturity analysis:

  • Technology project definition scales: TRL vs CRL.
  • Market attraction technology.
  • Technological valuation technique: cost method, market method, income method, 25% method.
  • Potential results analysis using CRL tools.
  • Basic MVP tools: VoC Surveys (40% rule), A/B testing, and case study.
  • Prototype creation in regulated markets - Merck Innovation Hubs Quality Program M and services.

Deliverable:
Projects structured in CRL and validated for TRL4 onwards and preparation of proposal for the Merck Strive Customer Network Meeting event.

What is it:
It is an in-person event connecting academic entrepreneurs, startups, angel investors, and anchor companies, for the presentation of technology development projects captured and supported by Merck.
The event is divided into oral presentations by key speakers, with prototype demonstrations at different TRL stages, seeking additional resources to complete their technological development.

Objective:
Expectations alignment, acceleration of market access, and MVP-partner validation.

Schedule:

  • Keynote speakers.
  • Innovation Journey Services - overview.
  • CMO as a strategy to accelerate market access.
  • Sharing success stories.
  • Startups' prototype demonstration.


Deliverable:
Technology transfer processes, licensing, co-investment in presented projects, and CMO service sales.

What is it?
It is a program that offers a series of research grants to stimulate innovative research in challenging areas of future importance.

Grants:
Grants of up to €500,000 per year for a maximum period of 3 years, with the option of extension or expansion.

Who can participate?
Scientists from around the world, affiliated with any institution, university, or company in the field of research.

The Point of Care Technologies (POCT) Innovation Hub is a public-private partnership between Merck Life Science and the Federal University of Goiás (UFG) to create a prototyping center specialized in advancing technological development projects (TRL4 to 8) of interest to academia and industry in co-development projects and associated specialized services.

The specialized services offered by POCT Hub are:

  • Uncut Sheets (LFIA): Lateral flow membranes in sheet or card format with control and test lines impregnated;
  • Colloidal gold conjugation (LFIA): Conjugation of colloidal gold with the antibody of interest;
  • Oligo design (LAMP): Spreadsheet with oligo sequences (in silico validation);
  • Customized microfluidic design (Biosensor): Previously sensitized electrodes with immobilized bioreceptor.
