Application

Alkane standard mixture has been used as a retention index calibration standard in the metabolic analysis of body fluids of humans and vertebrates using gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
It may also be used for performance tests of GC-systems as per DIN ISO 9377-2:2000 method used for the determination of petroleum hydrocarbons in water samples by gas chromatography technique.[1]
Alkane standard mixture has been used as a retention index calibration standard in the metabolic analysis of body fluids of humans and vertebrates using gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry(GC-MS).[2]

  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature.   3. Good morning Is the 68281-2ml Alkane standard mixture for performance product covered by ISO 17034 accreditation? If so, what documentation does this show? there is no evidence in the Certificate of Analysis

    1. This is a an analytical standard and not a Certified Reference Material. Therefore it has no ISO 17034 accreditation. An Alkane Standard that will have ISO 17034 accreditation is the C7 - C40 Saturated Alkanes Standard, certified reference material - 49452-U, https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/US/en/product/supelco/49452u.

    1. Yes, each n-alkane is included individually at 50 mg/L, as stated on the Certificate of Analysis. This product includes even alkanes from C10 to C40. Please see the link below to review a sample Certificate of Analysis.
