Application

14:0 PC (DMPC) has been used:

• in the preparation of liposomes for dissipation monitoring[1] and perforin binding and assembly[2] by Quartz crystal microscopy studies.
• in anthraquinone liposomes generation for spectral studies[3]
• in bicelles preparation along with phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate for in vitro reconstitution of β2-adrenergic receptor[4]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC) in combination with cholesterol is used as biomembrane model.[5] Oral supplementation of DMPC in apolipoprotein (apo) E−null mice, improves high density lipoprotein levels and other lipid profiles, preventing the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.[6]

General description

Dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC) belongs to the phosphatidylcholine (PCs) family. It is composed of saturated and symmetric phospholipids with 14 carbon atoms.[7] DMPC is zwitterionic glycerophospholipid and is associated with mammalian membranes.[5]

The list of Phosphatidylcholine products offered by Avanti is designed to provide compounds having a variety of physical properties. Products available include short chain (C3-C8 are water soluble and hygroscopic), saturated, multi-unsaturated and mixed acid PC′s. All of the products are purified by HPLC, and special precautions are taken to protect the products for oxidization and hydrolysis.
