General description
Foi relatada a conversão termoquímica de metanol em hidrocarbonetos C2-C10 na presença de zeólitos seletivos para forma. Foi proposta a sua oxidação em sistema catalisador de Ru-Pt por adátomos de rutênio.
O metanol é um solvente orgânico que pode ser sintetizado a partir de singás na presença de catalisadores de CuO/ZnO/Al2O3. É um candidato ideal como fonte de hidrogênio em tecnologia de célula de combustível, em função de sua alta proporção H/C, baixa propensão para produção de fuligem, temperatura de reformação relativamente baixa e porque existe em estado líquido em temperatura ambiente. Em uma célula de combustível de metanol direta (DMFC), o metanol sofre oxidação com ar para produzir eletricidade. As olefinas (etileno e propileno) formadas a partir do metanol através do processo MTO (metanol em olefinas), podem ser uma alternativa a óleo e gás na produção de combustíveis de hidrocarbonetos.

Industry research has indicated that unusual odors in methanol are a common problem and stem from low - level mercaptans and / or amines found in the natural gas raw materials used in production.
