For the Cell Culture Tested grade of this product, C3045, three options are provided: Serum, Tween and Ethanol.
Note that if Serum is used as the solvent, it may already contain some Cholesterol. The "Tween" is referring to an aqueous solution of either TWEEN 20 or TWEEN 80. Also, Ethanol can be used to make a stock solution, before supplementing the culture medium; consider perhaps a 100X solution in ethanol, which would give a concentration of 1 percent ethanol in the medium.

O colesterol é um lipídio que representa cerca de 20%-25% dos componentes estruturais das membranas celulares. Ele determina a fluidez e a permeabilidade da membrana, tornando-a permeável à água, mas não a íons e prótons. O colesterol também regula as funções das proteínas transportadoras e sinalizadoras presentes na membrana plasmática.[4] Os principais sítios de síntese do colesterol são o intestino delgado e o fígado.[5]
Preparation Note
O colesterol monoidratado produz uma solução transparente, incolor a ligeiramente amarela em álcool quente. Ele também é solúvel em acetona, dioxano, acetato de etila, benzeno, éter de petróleo, óleos, gorduras e soluções aquosas de sais biliares. As soluções devem ser mantidas ao abrigo da luz.

What is the best temperature for storage for 5 mg/mL solutions in ethanol? Can they be stored at 4C? Thank you!

The stability of this material in solution at 2-8°C has not been evaluated. Solutions prepared in Chloroform, in aliquots and protected from light, are stable for at least 1 year when stored at -20°C. Solutions prepared in Ethanol are expected to be similarly stable.

How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers.
