CD9 is a glioma stem cell (GSC)-enriched protein, which belongs to tetraspanin family. It is a cell motility related molecule. The gene is located on human chromosome 12p13.31. CD9 is expressed on pre-B cells, activated T cells and Schwann cells.

It was used as a primary antibody for the immunolocalization of adhesion protein CD9 during a study to investigate the impact of adhesion proteins on skeletal myoblast differentiation.

The CD9 protein is a cell surface glycoprotein that is known to complex with integrins and other transmembrane 4 superfamily proteins. It can modulate cell adhesion and migration. It also triggers platelet activation and aggregation. In addition, the protein appears to promote muscle cell fusion and support myotube maintenance.
