General description

Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is an anionic surfactant with an ability to denature proteins. It has a long-chain aliphatic group with negatively charged sulfate attached. This makes SDS an amphipathic detergent.

Application

Sodium dodecyl sulfate has been used as a:
  • surfactant to evaluate cytochrome c affinity by using surface plasmon resonance
  • surfactant in particle enhanced immunoassays to inhibit aggregation of particles and to enhance single microsphere coupling
  • biofilm-disrupting agent
