General description

Leucine is a non-glucogenic, and essential amino acid. It is a branched-chain amino acid that is a structural component of proteins.[1]

Application

L-Leucine has been used:

  • as a hypertrophic agent to monitor its effects on myotubes.
  • as a component of PMG media for culturing yeast.
  • in myotube protein synthesis analysis in skeletal muscle cells.
  • to study its effects on hepatic lipid metabolism.[2]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Leucine plays a role in intracellular signaling, gene transcription, and translation. It promotes the synthesis of protein by activating the mammalian target of the rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway in placental cells, skeletal muscles, and adipose tissue. Leucine inhibits protein degradation and promotes mitochondrial biogenesis, glucose metabolism, and fatty acid oxidation to provide energy for protein synthesis.[1]

  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.
