General description

IgG antibody subtype is the most abundant serum immunoglobulins of the immune system. It is secreted by B cells and is found in blood and extracellular fluids and provides protection from infections caused by bacteria, fungi and viruses. Maternal IgG is transferred to fetus through the placenta that is vital for immune defence of the neonate against infections[1]
Human IgG is purified from normal human serum by precipitation and gel filtration techniques.

Application

Purified human IgG has been used :-
  • as blocking antibody for flow cytometry[2]
  • as negative control in chromatin immunoprecipitation assays[3]
  • to precipitate IgG in human larynx epidermoid carcinoma cells by immunoprecipitation[4]
  • as a standard in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay[5]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Immunoglobulin G (IgG) regulates the immune responses such as phagocytosis and is also involved in the development of autoimmune diseases.[6] IgG1 regulates complement fixation in mice.[5]

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide

  2. I would like to have the full amino acid sequence of the IgG from product I2511. I cannot find this information in any of the data sheets available online

    1 answer
    1. This IgG product exhibits variable domains and has not been sequenced. The material is isolated and purified by precipitation and affinity chromatography. Sequence information on human immunoglobulins is broadly available in published literature. As an example, please see the link below to review the NIH database which includes sequence information:
      https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/protein/AAA02914.1
