General description

Thioacetamide (TAA) is a thiocarbonyl compound commonly used as a corrosion inhibitor. It prevents corrosion by forming a protective layer on metal surfaces.[1] It undergoes deuterium exchange reaction with D2O to afford N-dideuterated thioacetamide. Infrared spectral investigations of thioacetamide and its deuterated derivative (N-dideuterated thioacetamide) have been reported.[2]

Application

Hepatotoxin and carcinogen.[3] An additive in enantioselective reduction of β-keto esters with immobilized baker′s yeast.[4]
It may also be used as a sulfide source to prepare metal sulfides of metal ions like cadmium[5], nickel[6], zinc[7] and copper.[8]
Thioacetamide has been used as a source of sulfur required for the synthesis of CdS nanoparticles[9]and quantum dots.[10]
