General description

Sodium phosphate dibasic is a sodium salt of phosphoric acid. It is highly hygroscopic and water-soluble compound used as a texturizer, emulsifier, and buffer. It can also be used as a reagent in water softeners, cleaners, and boiler treatments process.
Sodium phosphate is widely used buffer in molecular biology, biochemistry, and chromatographic studies. It exists in three forms: monobasic (NaH2PO4), dibasic (Na2HPO4), and tribasic (Na3PO4). Monobasic and dibasic forms in varying ratios are commonly used to compose the neutral sodium phosphate buffer solution.

Application

Sodium phosphate dibasic can be used:
  • As an efficient and low-cost catalyst for the synthesis of 2-aminochrome by the reaction between aromatic aldehyde, malononitrile, and α- or β-naphthol under solvent-free conditions.
  • As a buffer in the synthesis of cyclic, acyclic enones and α, β-unsaturated aldehydes from trimethylsilyl enol ethers by using palladium as a catalyst and oxone as oxidant.
  • As an efficient catalyst in the synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrano[3,2-c] chromenes from aldehydes, malononitrile and 4-hydroxycoumarin.
  • As a phosphorous precursor with the phosphoric acid in the synthesis of hydroxyapatite by precipitation method using anionic surfactant SDS (sodium dodefcyl sulfate).
