Greener Alternative Product

greener alternative category

General description

Handling of large quantities of GO powder is not recommended since graphene oxide powder is thermally unstable. Graphene oxide paste can make storage and transportation of large quantities in a safe manner. Graphene oxide solutions of desired concentration or graphene oxide paper or sheet can be made from graphene oxide paste. Sonication is required to obtain single layers of graphene oxide. To make a concentrated aqueous dispersion that will not settle under gravity: add 25 mL water/1 g paste, stir overnight for 16 h, sonicate for 30 minutes in a mild bath sonicator. Centrifuge (effective diameter of the rotor is 23 cm) at 3500 rpm for 10 minutes to remove any large unexfoliated particles and decant the supernate to give ∼2 mg/mL graphene oxide in water. The above concentrate can be diluted and sonicated further to get single layer graphene oxide.
We are committed to bringing you Greener Alternative Products, which adhere to one or more of The 12 Principles of Greener Chemistry. This product belongs to Enabling category of greener alternatives thus aligns with "Design for energy efficency". High concentrated graphene oxide sheets provide the prerequisite viscosity to bind the electrode materials together and enable 3D printing. Using water as a green solvent makes this aqueous ink system feasible for processing and drying safety and low cost. Click here for more information.

Questions

1–6 of 6 Questions
  1. What is the percentage of solids in the paste? And what type of mixer is recommended for the dispersion/exfoliation process?

    1 answer
    1. This product is typically 10 weight percentage of graphene oxide suspended in water. The paste can be diluted into distilled or deionized water until no visible particles are present, then a sonication bath/sonication probe can be used for about about 0.5 hr.

      Helpful?

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  3. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  4. 900704 Graphene OXide 25 g 900704-25G, regrading the above product, I am interested to know if it is useful for biological application?

    1 answer
    1. This product is not tested for use in biological applications. However, graphene oxide is generally used in biological applications such as drug delivery, bioimaging, biosensing, and therapeutics.

      Helpful?

  5. I know you can not determine the molecular weight of graphene oxide, but is their an approximate or range of molecular weights I could calculate with?

    1 answer
    1. Unfortunately, the molecular weight of this product is not determined.

      Helpful?

  6. Hello, I want to know more about the product, like whether it is graphene oxide (GO) or graphite oxide (GT), as the picture does not show the functional groups of the graphene oxide (GO). how to make the single layer graphene oxide from this powder.

    1 answer
    1. 900704 is a graphene oxide paste. Unfortunately, the functional group of the graphene oxide is not determined. To obtain a single layer of graphene oxide, dilute the aqueous paste with distilled or de-ionized water, preferably while stirring. Never dry the paste. Then use a sonication bath for about 0.5-1 hr. To obtain single sheets, the concentration should be below 0.04 wt%.
