Polysorbate 80 (TWEEN® 80) is a polyethylene sorbitol ester. It has been tested as an efficient phase transfer catalyst for cyanation of alkyl halides, Williamson synthesis of ether and base-catalyzed dehydrobromination of alkyl halides.


Polysorbate 80 has been used in a stability study to prepare a 15% polysorbate 80-dimethyl trisulfide (DMTS-PS80) formulation, which shows promising potential in cyanide countermeasures.
Polysorbate 80 (TWEEN® 80), a hydrophilic non-ionic surfactant, is widely employed as surfactant and solubilizing agent in food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.
