Application

Sodium L-lactate has been used:
  • as a medium supplement and cell fuel source for human mammary epithelial cell line(MCF10A)[1] and dendritic cell culture[2]
  • as a gluconeogenic substrate in hepatic glucose production assay in primary hepatocytes[3]
  • in the glucose production medium for glucose production assay in human embryonic kidney (HEK293T) cells[4]
  • as a standard for calibration in lactate assay in bone marrow-derived macrophages[5]

Biochem/physiol Actions

L-lactate is produced from pyruvate by the enzyme lactate dehydrogenase. Lactate production occurs during anaerobic glycolysis or in proliferatively active cells.[6]

  1. How stable is product once it is resuspended in solution? What are the recommended storage conditions and shelf life?

    1. The solution stability of this product has not been determined. However, the 10% Lactic Acid solution in water, product number 63325, is a sterile filtered solution that has an assigned shelf life of 2 years when stored at 2-8°C. Other sources indicate prepared solutions of Lactic Acid Sodium may also be stored for 1 year at -80°C and 1 month at -20°C. Please note this information has not been validated.

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.
