Application

Polyethylene glycol 6000 is a non-ionic surfactant that can be used as a structure-directing agent to prepare mesoporous γ-Al2O3. PEG 6000 induced the formation of the lamellate structure morphology of boehmite nanoparticles with improved textural properties such as high surface area, larger pore volume, and pore size.[1] It is also used in drug formulations to enhance the dissolution rate of the poorly water-soluble drug molecule.[2][3] PEG-6000 can also be used in the purification of nucleic acids via the selective precipitation method. This approach is economically cost-effective and faster than the commonly employed chromatographic purification method.[4]

General description

Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is a synthetic, hydrophilic, biocompatible polymer that has a wide range of uses in PEGylation, surface conjugation, nanoparticle coating, and crosslinking for hydrogels, etc. PEGs are made by polymerizing ethylene oxide via a ring-opening reaction to produce a wide range of molecular weights and molecular weight distributions (polydispersity).
We are committed to bringing you Greener Alternative Products, which adhere to one or more of The 12 Principles of Green Chemistry. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is an eco-friendly, biodegradable polymer widely used in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Its non-toxic nature and versatility make it a sustainable choice, derived from renewable resources, contributing to greener product formulations. Click here for more information.

Solid dispersion literature, describing the mechanism of dissolution of drug-polyethylene glycol dispersions, still shows some gaps; (A). only few studies include experiments evaluating solid solution formation and the particle size of the drug in the dispersion particles, two factors that

Questions

1–3 of 3 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

      Helpful?

  3. Is it possible to use the product Polyethylene glycol 6000 (8074911000) to soften seed coats to aid in germination?

    1 answer
    1. The information from Jelitto Perennial Seeds suggests that for hard-shelled seeds, mechanical damaging of the shell or treatment with a softener such as Polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG 6000) can be helpful for quicker swelling. However, there is no specific mention of product number 807491 in particular for this purpose.
