  8. What are the options for drying solvents? 

    Sigma-Aldrich offers a full range of high-purity solvents with extremely low water levels specifically manufactured for moisture sensitive Organic and Biotech applications.  Sigma-Aldrich also carries various drying agents such as molecular sieves, which are typically compatible with organic solvents.

  9. What apparatus do you recommend for HPLC solvent filtration?

    Solvent extractors are often used for the quantitative extraction of organics from aqueous solutions and separations in immunoassays. The MIXXOR system has been applied successfully in many laboratory solvent extraction operations and is ideal for the rapid screening of alternative solvents for specific extraction problems.

  11. What is 190 proof and 200 proof ethanol?

    All non-denatured ethanol products have a proof associated with the product description. The proof is a measure of the water content of the ethanol portion of the product. The proof is calculated as two times (2 x) the actual ethanol concentration by volume.

  12. How can I get help with the ATF paperwork for 190 and 200 proof ethanol?

    Because these non-denatured ethanol products are federally regulated, an ATF permit is required to purchase 190 and 200 proof ethanol. Sigma-Aldrich takes the hassle out of this process for you! There is no ATF paperwork needed or records to be kept on your part. Sigma-Aldrich holds the permit, and immediately pays the federal excise tax. For more regulatory information regarding the tax on ethanol, visit the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

  15. Does Product 459836, Ethanol, contain any denaturants?

    This product does not contain any denaturants. A denaturant is an impurity (e.g. isopropyl alcohol, methyl alcohol, etc.) that is added to ethanol to make it unsuitable for consumption. Even though this ethanol is not denatured, it is still only suitable for research and development use and is not appropriate for human use products.

  16. Is Product 459836, Ethanol, DNase, RNase, and Protease free?

    This product is not tested for the presence of DNases, RNases, and proteases. However, Sigma-Aldrich does offer ethanol products that are tested for these impurities. Ethanol products that are part of the BioUltra product line, and for applications in molecular biology, are required to be DNase, RNase, protease, and phosphatase free.

  17. What are the options for drying solvents?

    Sigma-Aldrich offers a full range of high-purity solvents with extremely low water levels specifically manufactured for moisture sensitive organic and biotech applications.  Sigma-Aldrich also carries various drying agents, which are compatible with organic solvents. For drying ethanol, 3Å molecular sieves are a useful medium for removing any remaining water. For example, we offer these drying agents under such product numbers as 208574 and 208582.
