Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin B, which is involved in the synthesis of fatty acids and in gluconeogenesis.[1][2] It is found in plants and animals. Biotin deficiency causes retardation in growth, alopecia and neurological impairment in humans and animals.[3]

Application

Biotin may be used as an EP reference standard for the determination of the analyte in pharmaceutical formulations by liquid chromatography.[4][5]
