General description

Our titanium(IV) oxide, anatase nanopowder is a fine white powder composed of titanium dioxide nanoparticles with a particle size less than 25 nm. Anatase is a metastable polymorph of TiO2, which is less hard and less dense than the rutile polymorph. Optically, anatase nanopowder has a lower refractive index, absorbs less UV light, and exhibits greater photocatalytic activity than the rutile polymorph. Consequently, anatase is often preferred in applications where photocatalytic activity is desired, such as self-cleaning surfaces and solar cells.

Application

Titania paste may be used as a transparent coating for self cleaning glass.[1]Low optical scattering titania-acrylate nanocomposites have been reported.[2] Metal contacts in solar cells based on titanium dioxide and di-(isothiocyanate)-bis-(2,2′-bipyridyl-4,4′-dicarboxylate)ruthenium(II) have been studied.[3]

Questions

1–10 of 13 Questions
  1. Can we use this product as ETL layer for perovskite solar cells.

    1 answer
    1. This product can be used in photovoltaic applications. However, it has not been tested for use as an ETL for perovskite solar cells. Titanium dioxide in the anatase phase is commonly used for this purpose.

      Helpful?

  2. Is this product hydrophilic or lipophilic? If it exhibits that property, could you please explain the reason behind it?

    1 answer
    1. TiO2 powders are generally considered to be hydrophilic, with anatase polymorphs being more so than rutile. Uncoated TiO2 powders such as this one also have more hydrophilic properties than inorganic- or organic-coated powders. Anatase has a high surface energy, which contributes to its ability to interact favorably with water molecules. This high energy facilitates the adsorption of water, leading to a hydrophilic surface. The presence of surface defects and the formation of hydroxyl groups (–OH) on the anatase surface enhance its affinity for water. The arrangement of Ti and O atoms in the tetragonal crystal structure allows for a more reactive surface compared to other polymorphs like rutile, which may have a more stable but less reactive surface.

      Helpful?

  3. Is this product a high-purity anatase phase TiO2 or Is it possible that the rutile phase is also included?

    1 answer
    1. This is a high purity anatase phase. There should not be rutile phase present.

      Helpful?

  4. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  5. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  6. Are the NP silanized? Do they need to be activated by UV for antimicrobial property?

    1 answer
    1. This product is packaged in glass vials and will not be salinized. Titanium (IV) oxide nanopowder has been proved to be the most active photocatalytic semiconductor under ultraviolet radiation. Ultraviolet (UV) light-mediated activation of titanium dioxide (TiO2) cleans the surface microenvironment through photocatalysis.

  7. How is Titanium(IV) oxide, anatase - nanopowder, Product 637254, manufactured?

    1 answer
    1. According to the manufacturer, product 637254 is produced by a process of calcination at 300°C.

      Helpful?

  8. What is the morphology of Product 637254, Titanium(IV) oxide, anatase - nanopowder?

    1 answer
    1. According to the supplier, the morphology of this product is expected to be spherical.

      Helpful?

  9. What is the solubility of Product 637254, Titanium(IV) oxide, anatase - nanopowder?

    1 answer
    1. We do not test the solubility of this product. However, according to the chemicals encyclopedia published by the Royal Society of Chemistry, 13th edition, this product is insoluble in water, HCl, HNO3 and dilute H2SO4. It is soluble in hot concentrated H2SO4 and hydrofluoric acid.
