General description

Biologically inert mixtures of cellulose acetate and cellulose nitrate have made MF-Millipore membrane filters one of the most widely used membranes in analytical and research applications.

MF-Millipore filters without Triton surfactant contain minimum amounts of wetting agent and have a lower water extractable content than standard MF-Millipore filters.

Features & Benefits:
- Versatile filter for biological and environmental monitoring applications
- Available in a range of pore sizes, colored black or white, with or without a gridded surface
- Compatible with ethylene oxide, gamma irradiation, and autoclave sterilization methods
Filter Code: HAWP
We are committed to bringing you Greener Alternative Products, which have been re-engineered to enable more sustainable research solutions. The inner & outer boxes containing the membrane discs are made from bio-circular material allocated using the ISCC mass balance approach. Click here for more information.

Application

  • Clarification of aqueous solutions
  • Particle removal
  • Particle analysis
  • Microbiology analysis
  • Isolation of virus-like particles in wastewater
  • Microplastics analysis grade water
  • Nucleic acid binding, including eDNA

Other Notes

Directions for Use

  • Organism Retention: Microorganism
  • Mode of Action: Filtration (size exclusion)
  • Application: General laboratory filtration
  • Intended Use: Retention or removal of biological contaminants
  • Instructions for Use: Sterilizing filtration of a liquid through a membrane with a 0.2 μm (or smaller) pore size effectively removes biological contaminants, including bacteria, mold and yeast. For the selective retention of larger biological contaminents, liquid filtration through membranes with 0.45 μm (or larger) pore sizes may be used to trap and support microorganism growth for subsequent culture and analysis
  • Storage Statement: Store in dry location away from heat source
  • Disposal Statement: Dispose of in accordance with applicable federal, state and local regulations.

Questions

1–3 of 3 Questions
  1. Can this filters be used to filter Chlorophyll a for analysis from water samples?

    1 answer
    1. While this product has not been specifically tested for use in Chlorophyll isolation from water samples, a number of publications recommend using a 0.45 µm pore size for this application. Materials range from glass to nitrocellulose. This filter membrane is expected to be suitable for this application.

      Helpful?

  2. Is this sterile?

    1 answer
    1. This is a non-sterile product. These membranes may be autoclaved at 121°C for 15-20 minutes. Note that the original packaging is not autoclavable. Membranes must be transferred to an autoclave-safe container or wrap. The filters may warp slightly during the autoclave cycle, but will flatten when placed in a filter holder.

      Helpful?

  3. Can these filters be used for Silt Density Index (SDI) testing? I am thinking mainly regarding the material of the filter, not so much the diameter and pore size (the last two parameters are correct for SDI testing).

    1 answer
    1. Both HAWP04700 and HAEP04700 filters can be used for Silt Density Index (SDI) testing.
