General description

2-propanol is a clear and volatile liquid that is used in various industrial and commercial products for different purposes. It is used in paints, inks, fuels, disinfectants, and deicers. 2-propanol is useful in the production of waxes, animal and vegetable oils, and flavorings. It is also commonly found in household products like medications, colognes, perfumes, and toiletries. The most common source of 2-propanol exposure is rubbing alcohol (70%-90% isopropanol or ethanol).

Application

2-Propanol has been used:
  • to precipitate genomic DNA extracted from flies
  • to precipitate genomic DNA extracted from xenograft primary tumors and organs
  • to immunoprecipitate 5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine (BrdU)

Biochem/physiol Actions

Isopropanol (2-Propanol) is widely used in molecular biology for the precipitation of DNA during extraction from cells and tissues. BioUltra IPA is suitable for DNA precipitation.
